Celebrating Black History Month
It’s February + you know what that means, it’s Black History Month! And even though around here we do black history 365, this month is a great moment for the collective to reflect on the many + amazing contributions of Black Americans + to remember those who have paved a way for me…and YOU. I love this quote by Vernon Henry. The reminder that we didn’t get here alone + for many of us the sacrifices of others is why we have many of the opportunities that we do today. There was a cost paid by those who came before us + for me taking time acknowledge that is important + necessary.
Equally important is the duty we have to pay it forward. LEGACY is a word that I’ve heard a lot lately + as I’ve matured it’s something I think about frequently. What will your legacy be? What will YOU give? How will you be remembered? It’s not a question to take lightly. It really makes me reflect on how I show up + the ways that I can pay forward what I’ve been given.
I was pleasantly surprised + excited to see several retailers carrying Black History Month lines this year. It made it easy to access shirts, books, accessories and even classroom supplies that celebrated black pride, culture + figures. And I am here for it! I picked up several items at Target, JCPenney and Michael’s Stores. Let’s just say your girl has enough stuff to be reppin’ every weekend this month + I’m linking all my favorites below.
How are you celebrating Black History Month this year?
